Babel fish, untangle this garbled string of spoken word
Let it be a thing that is understood when heard
Fill my ears with something I can use
Something I can run with
Something coherent and recognizable
I stand bewildered too often to recount
I am dumb
without response
And how can it be any other way?
For this code there is no ring
And for these words no dictionary
I am dumb
and dazed
Taking it all in
Especially the blame
For I am guilty of every crime every time
And what is it, I wonder?
I fill my days tracing the clues
Was it here? Did it start there? And how did it end up like this?
I find it all clear, the mud
Clear to why my hands are filled with blood
This I can’t escape
Although I still try and although I still pray
Aliens to this human race
United in form and feeling
But lost in thought and lost in talk
A failure to communicate
And the failure is mine
For I speak in daggers it seems
Like good messenger pigeons
They find their way back to me
What do I have left but time
I have not strength nor sense
Nor home nor peace
Nor dignity nor relief
What I have is time
Still ticking and still I wait
That one language, will you teach me?
Only time will tell and in time I will see
Until then, Babel fish, be kind to me
Give me a glimpse of what it is all this time I have been missing
